Forecasting My Inner Weather

Daily writing prompt
What details of your life could you pay more attention to?

Ever feel like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster?

Yeah, me too.

Then I started thinking of my feelings as weather.

Game changer.

Some days, it’s all sunshine. Joy comes easy. I soak it up like a cat in a sunbeam.

Other times?

Storm clouds roll in. Anxiety looms on the horizon.

I used to run for cover. Now? I watch the storm approach. What shape will it take? How long will it last?

Irritation can crackle like lightning.

I’ve learned to step back, observe.

Where’s this coming from? Often, naming it defuses it.

Sadness can fog everything up.

Colors fade, sounds muffle. I don’t fight it anymore. I move through it, knowing the sun’s still there, hidden.

The trickiest days? When it’s all four seasons in one.

Sunshine to squalls in sixty seconds. It’s dizzying, but I’m learning to roll with it.

Here’s the thing: I’m not the weather. I’m the sky. Vast. Open. Containing it all.

I still get caught in emotional downpours. But now, instead of being swept away, I pause. Notice. “Huh, heavy clouds today. Wonder what they’ll bring?”

This weather-watching has taught me a lot. Patience. Resilience. Self-compassion. On stormy days, I know clearer skies are coming. In bright moments, I store up that light for darker times.

Best part? It’s helped me connect with others. We’re all weathering our own inner climates, right?

So, what’s your forecast today? Gentle breeze of calm? Gathering storm clouds? Whatever it is, remember: you’re the vast sky. You can hold it all.

And like all weather, this too shall change.
