That Time Traffic FOMO Changed My Life

Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).

You know that moment when a single sight changes everything? flashback to 2021

There I was, trapped in post-lockdown traffic, sweating through what should’ve been a quick trip home.

The air conditioning was fighting a losing battle against the summer heat.

That’s when I saw it.

One motorcycle, weaving through the sea of frustrated faces and brake lights like it was dancing to its own rhythm.

While we all sat there, bound by lanes and bumpers, this rider was living in a different world entirely.

In that moment, my brain went from zero to “I need this in my life” in about 0.2 seconds. (Funny how the best decisions sometimes skip the whole pros-and-cons list entirely!)

The next week was a blur of YouTube tutorials and motorcycle forums.

I found myself leaving work early to wander through dealerships, touching leather seats and chrome finishes with that dangerous mix of excitement and complete newbie energy.

Those post-lockdown days had us all reimagining our lives, didn’t they?

But this wasn’t just about escaping traffic anymore – it was about breaking free from the box I’d built around my own life.

Now, every time I swing my leg over the seat of my own motorcycle, there’s this moment of pure electricity.

That same feeling of possibility I felt watching that first bike glide past still hits me, just in a different way.

When asked about the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought, sure, the motorcycle fits the bill in dollars. But honestly? I wasn’t just buying a vehicle – I was buying my own form of therapy. Those two wheels have become my meditation in motion, my reset button, my clarity finder.

There’s something about focusing on the road ahead, feeling every subtle lean, and being completely present in each moment that quiets all the noise in your head.

Problems that seem overwhelming in stillness somehow sort themselves out over the hum of an engine and the rhythm of the road.

Sometimes the best healers come with two wheels and a full tank of gas.

P.S. If anyone asks, I tell them it was an “investment in personal transportation infrastructure.” Sounds way more responsible that way, right? 😉
